Celebrating Creativity Through Community Partnerships

The Kepnock State High School Arts Department is proud to continue fostering strong connections within the local arts community through its ongoing partnership with ArtPlus, supporting opportunities for creative learning and artistic growth across the region.

Over the weekend, Kepnock and ArtPlus welcomed Brisbane artist and educator Kerry Daley to Bundaberg for a two-day professional gouache workshop. Artists from Bundaberg and across Queensland came together to explore composition, value and landscape painting techniques while sharing ideas and learning alongside fellow creatives.

The workshop also provided valuable professional learning opportunities for educators. Kepnock State High School Head of Department – The Arts, Jess Newitt, participated in the workshop, gaining new skills, knowledge and inspiration to bring back into the school’s Visual Art classrooms.

Partnerships such as these play an important role in strengthening the creative community within Bundaberg, providing opportunities for artists of all ages and experience levels to connect, learn and develop their practice. By supporting events that celebrate creativity and collaboration, Kepnock State High School continues to contribute to a vibrant and thriving arts culture in the region.

The school has also recently benefited from the generosity of local artists and arts advocates. Local artist Annette Tyson donated a small printing press to the Arts Department, creating exciting new opportunities for students to explore printmaking techniques. ArtPlus owner and artist Marlies Oakley has also gifted a collection of books focused on street art, helping to inspire students and broaden their understanding of contemporary artistic practice.

These contributions provide valuable resources that enhance learning experiences and encourage students to engage with a diverse range of artistic processes and styles.

Kepnock State High School extends its sincere thanks to Kerry Daley, Annette Tyson, Marlies Oakley and the team at ArtPlus for their ongoing support of arts education. Through these partnerships, students and community members alike are provided with meaningful opportunities to learn, create and connect, ensuring creativity continues to flourish throughout Bundaberg.
