Kepnock State High
School has distinct Senior and Junior Secondary Schools. Senior Secondary
covers Years 10, 11 and 12 and Junior Secondary accommodates Years 7, 8 and 9.
Our Senior Secondary curriculum options are broad.
Students may select from a wide range of Authority Subjects which contribute to
Overall Position (OP) and direct entry to University. They also select from a
range of Authority-registered subjects, and Vocational Education and Training
(VET) such as accredited Certificate courses and school-based apprenticeships
and traineeships. Students who are not OP eligible are made aware of
alternative University entry pathways through Authority-registered subjects and
VET options.
Our Junior Secondary curriculum ensures students have
a solid grounding in the core curriculum areas of English, Mathematics,
Science, Humanities and Health and Physical Education. Students also study a
range of elective subjects from the Technology and Arts areas. The Academic
Challenge and Excellence (ACE) program provides extension for the more
academically oriented students in English, Mathematics, Science and Music. A
Sports Excellence Program is also offered to selected students. The school
offers two Languages Other Than English (LOTE) – Japanese and German. In Years
7 and 8 it is generally expected that every student studies one LOTE subject,
which may then be continued through Years 9 – 12 as desired by the student.
Full details of courses can be found in the subject
information handbooks which are updated each year.
