School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SATs) Overview

School-based apprenticeship and traineeships (SATs) provide an opportunity for students in Years 10, 11 and 12 to undertake employment-based training while continuing full-time enrolment in a school program and studying towards and Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE)

What Are SATs?

  • Combine school and paid work – student will still need keep up with both their SAT and school work requirements
  • Available for Year 10, 11, and 12 students
  • Earn a qualification while at school

Benefits:

  • Gain real-world skills
  • Improve job prospects after school
  • Connect with local businesses

How It Works:

  1. Choose an apprenticeship or traineeship
  2. Balance school, work, and training – this is negotiated between all parties (Employer, Student, Parent/Carer and the School)
  3. School, employer, and training organisation must agree on a schedule

Next Steps:

  • Talk to your school's career advisor, relevant year level Deputy Principal or Head of Engagement for Year 10, 11 or 12
