Council is proud to partner with Telstra to deliver the Mayor’s Telstra Innovation Awards exclusively to high schools within the Bundaberg Regional Council local government area.

With these awards, we’re looking for an innovative and creative use of technology - it could be a new app, new concepts in social media, gaming technology or robotics. It could be a smarter phone, watch or digital camera.

It could even be a revolutionary new idea for transport, health, agriculture, security, conservation, construction, energy or recreation. It could be the application of existing technology in a novel way to solve a community, environmental or business challenge.

The possibilities are endless and that’s what makes these awards so exciting!

The award is open to students from years 9 to 12 in teams of three, from high schools located in the Bundaberg Regional Council local government area in 2019. There is no limit to the number of teams that can enter from each school.

Phase one of the award commences 11 February, term 1 with teams having over six weeks to develop an original technological idea, concept/solution. Entries for phase one of the competition will close 22 March 2019.

An evaluation panel will review all the entries and shortlist finalist teams. These will be announced 1 April 2019.

During phase two, teams have a further ten weeks to develop their original technological idea as a proof of concept.

During this phase, students will attend four mentoring sessions where they will have the opportunity to be coached by a range of entrepreneurs and industry experts. Video submissions for phase two of the competition close 17 June 2019.

An evaluation panel will review the entries and allocate scores based on the award criteria set out in the terms and conditions.

The final stage of the competition is the live pitch and awards ceremony which will be held during the week of 15-19 July 2019, where the finalist teams will present their ideas or concepts in a live pitch to the evaluation panel.

Final scores for this presentation will be allocated, and the winner of The Mayor’s Telstra Innovation Awards will be announced.
