Mathematics

Mathematics a word that's mere mention scares so many but provides skills everyone needs to survive in the real world, for example making informed decisions in areas as diverse as buying and selling, home maintenance, interpreting media presentations and forward planning.

Mathematics subjects are offered to students from Years 8 to 12.

In Year 8 & 9 students concentrate on essential skills and work at a level that matches their capability, covering the topics Number, Space, Measurement, Chance & Data and Patterns & Alegbra.  In Year 10 students are prepared for Senior Mathematics Subjects, so they can make informed decisions about their future professional direction.

In the senior school students elect to study either Pre-Vocational Maths, Maths A or Maths B, with Maths C offered as an extension to students studying Maths B.

  • Pre-Vocational Mathematics allows students to focus on the practical application of developing skills, for example designing a kitchen, running a car and langscaping an area.
  • Mathematics A aims to provide the opportunity for students to participate more fully in life-long learning.  It involves the study of Financial Mathematics, Applied Geometry, Statistics, and Operations Research.
  • Mathematics B encourages students to develop positive attitudes towards mathematics by approaches involving exploration, investigation, application of knowledge and skills, problem solving and communication.  It involves the study of Applied Functgions, Calculus and Statistical Analysis.
  • Mathematics C aims to develop student's mathematical potential, and to build upon and extend their mathematics.  It involves the study of Matrices, Vectors, Complex Numbers, Structures and Patterns, and the practical power of Calculus.

Mathematics tutoring is available to all students at the following session times every school week:

  • Monday morning in C2 from 8am - 9am.
  • Wednesday afternoon in the Library from 3:15pm to 4:15pm.

Please see Ms Orr in C1 staffroom to be involved with the Mathematics tutoring.
