Languages - German and Japanese

Did you know?  Language learning.......

  • Provides two bonus rank points for university entry to students who have studied a language in Years 11 and 12 by universities in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and Toowoomba.
  • Covers most of the core curriculum elements required for the Qld Core Skills Test (QCS) contributing to a student's OP.
  • Enables students to achieve better results in their own language and other subjects than those who don't.
  • Improves a child's literacy as it increases the knowledge of word and sentence structure.
  • Leads to increased self and social confidence.
  • Is widely recognised as an important contributor to the development of problem-solving skills that are beneficial across all sectors of learning.
  • Leads to increased opportunities to work overseas or international companies in Australia.


Learning a language can be useful in these careers:

  • Tourism and hospitality
  • Business and commerce
  • Science
  • Police
  • Public service, diplomatic serv​
  • Armed forces
  • Law
  • Public Relations
  • Tertiary, ESL, migrant education
  • Teaching (primary or secondary) should consider continuing with a language​

Exchanges and Scholarships:

German language students are eligible for an exchange to Germany with the Society for Australian German Student Exchange (SAGSE) during the Christmas holidays at the end of Year 10 and 11.

For Japanese language learners the JENESYS Program for 15-18 year olds is available in early December for three weeks.
