Home Economics Education (HEC) Junior: Yrs 8, 9 & 10

 

SUBJECT OUTLINE:

A course can be designed around a selection of the following strands of study:

Home Economics Practice

  • Preparation and production of a range of dishes for tasting, testing and sharing to meet a range of specific purposes.
  • Comprehensive study of individual and group nutritional requirements.
  • Designing, planning and producing using textiles for a range of people and situations.
  • Study of fabric design and construction.

 

Becoming Independent

  • Studying the interaction between individuals and their living environment coupled with consumer decisions.
  • Preparation and production of functional items to enhance the living environment.

 

Living in the Wider Society

  • Studying the stages of physical, emotional and social development.
  • Studying the functions and roles of individuals and their relationships.

 

ACTIVITIES:

Year 8

For the 10 week unit "Back to Basics" in Year 8 students are involved in:

  • Practical activities to encourage their skills and enjoyment in preparing food for both themselves and their family.
  • Hygenic and safe work practices in food preparation.
  • Preparing a variety of nutritious, economical dishes using tasty recipes.

 

In Year 9 & 10, students will undertake study from a variety of electives.
